As conventional and alternative medicine continue to collaborate, ancient medicinal practices have emerged to our modern day. The ancient medicinal practices, known as energy healing, are an integral part of African, Asian, European, Indian, and South American cultures previously and currently; in fact, nearly 80% of Africans refer to herbalists or "witch doctors" before seeing a conventional doctor. Energy healing was studied further as we discovered quantum mechanics and bio-electricity.

Energy healing may also be referred to as spiritual healing, vibrational medicine, psychic healing, and energy therapy.

Healing Modalities

Due to it's prevalence around the world, several energy healing modalities exist, to include:

  • Qigong

  • Shaman

  • Sangoma

  • Quantum healing

  • Reiki

  • Therapeutic touch

  • Polarity healing

These healing techniques may be directed by physical touch, no physical touch, and distance. Many practitioners and healers combine these modalities with herbal concoctions and conventional medicine. The goal of energy healing, and other alternative medicine practices, is to harmonize the compartments of self (physical, emotional, mental, and  spiritual) from a holistic standpoint.

To summarize, charka's are like the orifices to the living energy that flows within each of us; in Sanskrit, chakra translates to "wheel." Every piece of matter vibrates, as minuscule as the atoms themselves. From general chemistry, we know these vibrations are caused by energy. Chakra centers reveal the state of the body, which often manifest to the physical body. There are seven primary chakra points:

Reiki works with the body's energy system to restore balance. This healing modality was born over 100 years ago on a mountain. Dr. Mikao Usui was attending training in the monastery where he fasted and meditated for 21 days. During this time, he experienced a spiritual awakening and symbols appeared to him for the healing technique he wanted to create. Since then, Reiki has spread to the west and is available in many forms (Usui, Rainbow, Shamballa, Kundalini, etc).

In Reiki, the practitioner is the conduit of the Universal Life Force that stimulates healing within the body. The healing rays of Reiki may reach the body with or without touch; in fact, Reiki transcends time and space, as it carries the Universal Life Force energy. The healing process is induced by relaxing the body, which reduces stress and inflammation indicators. The sacred Reiki symbols are used accordingly during a session, each carrying their own significance.
