What Is a Clinical Herbal Consultation — And Do You Need One?

Most people come to herbalism the same way: they read something online, buy a supplement, and wait to see what happens. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes it doesn't. Often, they're not sure either way.
There's a better way. And it's called a clinical herbal consultation.
What It Is
A clinical herbal consultation is not a wellness chat. It is a structured, individualized assessment of your health — conducted by a trained clinical herbalist — that results in a specific, personalized protocol built around your goals, your history, and your constitution.
In practice, that means we spend meaningful time together: going through your health history, your current symptoms and patterns, your lifestyle, your relationship to stress, your digestion, your sleep, your hormones — because the body is not a collection of isolated systems. It is an ecosystem. A clinical herbalist is trained to look at the whole of it.

From that assessment, I build a protocol. Specific herbs, specific preparations, specific doses, specific timing — selected because they are the right plants for you, not because they are the most popular or the most searched.
Why Individualization Matters
Here is the thing about herbs that the supplement aisle doesn't tell you: they are not interchangeable, and neither are people.
Ashwagandha is one of the most popular adaptogens on the market right now. It is genuinely effective — for the right person, in the right preparation, at the right dose. It is also warming, stimulating, and contraindicated in certain conditions. For someone who is already running hot and wired, ashwagandha may make things worse. For someone cold and depleted, it may be exactly right.
The correct herb, in the correct preparation, at the correct dose, for the correct person. That is what clinical herbalism is built around. And that specificity is what separates a consultation from a Google search.
What We Cover Together
At Asili Herbs, our consultations are comprehensive. We look at:
Your health history and primary concerns
Your current medications and supplements (herb-drug interactions are real, and I take them seriously)
Your constitution — how your body tends to run: warm or cool, dry or damp, tense or lax
Your goals: Are we addressing an acute issue? Building long-term resilience? Supporting a transition like postpartum, perimenopause, or recovery?
From there, I build your protocol — which may include teas, tinctures, topicals, dietary adjustments, or lifestyle recommendations depending on what your body needs. I also teach you about the plants I'm recommending, because I believe your healing is more sustainable when you understand it.
Who It's For
A clinical herbal consultation is for you if:
You've been using herbs casually and aren't seeing the results you want.
You have a chronic condition and want to understand what plant medicine can and cannot support.
You're navigating a health transition — postpartum recovery, hormonal shifts, immune rebuilding — and want a targeted approach.
You simply want a practitioner who will look at you as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms.
It is not a replacement for your physician.
It is a complement — another layer of care, drawing from a tradition of medicine that predates modern pharmacology by thousands of years and has much to offer alongside it.
How to Book
Consultations with Asili Herbs are available through our website. If you're not sure whether a consultation is the right next step, you're welcome to reach out with questions. That conversation doesn't cost anything.
Your health is not a product category. It deserves personalized attention. That's why we offer this work — and why I love it most of all.
